32nd Annual Fabulous Fords Forever Sunday 4/30/2017

Set your clocks to get up and on the road early to Buena Park, across from Knott's Berry Farm for the 32nd Annual Fabulous Fords Forever.   This show happens to be the largest single manufacturer show on the west coast.  With close to 2000...TWO THOUSAND Ford, Lincoln, Mercury, Edsel and the odd foreign Ford product tossed in for good measure.  I haven't missed a one in years.

As always there will be celebrities and show cars including a tease of the 2018 Mustang due out this fall.

CELEBRITIES -

• Sebastien Bourdais: The star French driver who co-drove the winning Ford GT in the 2016 Le Mans 20 Hours and this year's Daytona 24 Hours! Sebastien will be joining us fresh from his appearance in the Phoenix Grand Prix IndyCar race on April 29th!
• Camilo Pardo: who was tapped by Ford Motor Company as Chief Designer for the Ford GT and the SVT Studio to design the 2005 and 2006 production Ford GT
• Donald Farr: a noted Mustang authority with is new book "Ford Mustang: America's Original Pony Car"
• Tom Loeser: celebrated auto photographer with is exquisite book featuring his photos and text by Donald Far "Art of the Mustang"
  • Donald and Tom will have their books available at the show for purchase and in-person autograph signing.
• Linda Vaughn and Rob Kinnan: promoting their book "Linda Vaughn, the First Lady of Motorsports"
• Steve Saleen: Who's legendary Saleen vehicles including the Saleen S7 and Saleen Mustang have a huge fan base

Fabulous Fords Forever show set for 4/17/2016

My most favorite single manufacturer show is Fabulous Ford's Forever.  Where else will I find at least one example of a fine, and I mean FINE 1969 Mercury Marauder XL than at this show?  This show in years past has easily held 2000+ cars with the Mustang dominating the show.

This years show is set for Sunday April 17, 2016 from 10-6 across the street from Knott's Berry Farm in lovely Buena Park, CA.  Of course I'll be there with a press pass in town documenting all the fun.

April is all about the Car Show

First show is April 19 adjacent to Knott's Berry Farm in Buena Park.  Its the Fabulous Fords Forever show that covers everything Ford made from 1905 to the current model year.  Sometimes there are even teasers for coming production cars.  There will be a huge showing of Mustangs.  Without a doubt this is by FAR the best single manufacture show in So. Cal.

I can tell you parking is tight in the area later in the day. Arrive early to beat the crows.

The following weekend is the Concorsco Ferrari '15 held in Old Town Pasadena.  Its open free to the public and will included hundreds of Ferrari's along the stretch of Colorado from Raymond Avenue to Pasadena Avenue.  Quite the collection of cars.

Also known as Ferraris on Colorado, this signature event hosted by the Ferrari Club of America Southwest Region delights over 5,000 owners, enthusiasts and spectators each year. Impressive Ferraris from around the country will line Colorado Boulevard from Pasadena Avenue to Raymond Avenue. Adding to the entertainment will be a vast array of sponsors and partners displaying exceptional sports and luxury cars, offering quality accessories & fine apparel and introducing various automotive related services. This Ferrari exclusive annual concours is free and open to the public. Ferraris from 2004 and earlier are eligible for judging. Judging will follow FCA National Guidelines IAC/PFA (International Advisory Council for the Preservation of Ferrari Automobiles). Awards in up to ten classes will be made at the conclusion of the event by an esteemed panel of Ferrari experts.

29th Fabulous Fords Forever

April 29, 2014 was the day, the biggest single manufacturer Auto Show in SoCal.  The Fabulous Fords Forever show and it didn't disappoint.  Over 1000 Mustangs crowded the main viewing area off La Palma in Buena Park.  Nearly that many other Ford, Mercury, Edsel, Lincoln and Thunderbird on the viewing area off of Stanton.  Thats a lot of cars in various states of found to restored to customized to soak in on one visit.

A few of my favorites, for reasons you may or may not ever guess.

The AC Cobra, what a car this was.  Meant to offset the roadsters the Brits were dumping on us in the 60's.  With its light weight and massive Ford 427 Cobra under the hood, it embarrased them and its other contemporary the Corvette.  Still a popular car at shows and among collectors.  This pristine example according to the owner had nearly70K pumped into the restoration.

This "Mercury" custom is anything but a Mercury as its cobbled from a variety old cars, 48-50 Mercury, 49-51 Ford, with bits from Town Car, Mercury Marauder, Mustang, Thunderbird, and Cougar all built on top of the chassis of a Lincoln Mark VIII.  At least they kept it all in the Ford Family.  Oddly it sorta works on a few different levels.

1974 Mustang II.  Every car has a story and this one is no exception.  This un restored, unmolested original with a 2.8l V6 stole my heart.  The current owner fell in love with it when he was 16 but lacked the funds to buy it in total.  His Dad stepped in and fronted the balance and bought it new off a lot in Hawaii.  He worked off the balance and Title reverted to him a few years later.  It served as a daily driver for him until 1999.  He drove the car up from San Diego for the show.  Not perfect, certainly a terrrific example of the car that kept the Mustang alive during the gas crisis of the disco era.

The Ford Consul Corsair.  This gem was imported from the UK back in the 60's.  It is a very rare 2 door, that if you believe the wiki was pretty much reserved for the export market, which would explain its steering wheel on the right side of the car.  This gem was driven by the owner all the way from Louisiana just for the show.

1970 Thunderbird Landau.  What a massive beast this is.  I love it.  From the jet fighter inspired front end protrusion to the nouveay riche interior it has it all.   Nearly bought one, used of course, when I was shopping around for my first car all thoes years ago.  (I turned down the one I drove as it had a funny knock at idle). What a car that would have been, but totally inappropriate for a struggling college student.

What a Pinto??? Yes, and this 1977 reminded me of my own '77 that actually got me through college. Cheap to keep, frugal on gas and ran forever.  127K on the clock when I traded it in '85 and it was running strong.

2014 Fabulous Fords Forever Show set for 4/27/2014

The video is from 2013 and gives you a great overview of the show and what to expect for 2014.  The celebrity's are yet not announced, but they are always big and well respected in the auto world.

With this being the Mustangs 50th anniversary, this years show like last year will have a large contingency of Mustangs in a wide and wild variety of trims to enjoy.  My hunch since the next generation 'stang is due to be launched "late this summer" it too will make an appearance at this years show.  Just a hunch but a good one.

This year's show is set to take place at Buena Park's Knott's Berry Farm as it has the last several years.  The date is April 27, 2014.  All the info you could ever want can be found HERE at their web site.  If you are looking to show your old Ford, Lincoln, Mercury or Edsel you need to sign up fast as the show is a sell out every year.
